Ontario Hockey Federation Removes Body Checking from Recreational Hockey
As many Forest Hill Hockey Association families are aware, the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) made an arbitrary ruling on May 4th to disallow body checking from House League and Select Hockey effective immediately.

Forest Hill Hockey does not allow body checking in any House League divisions and hasn't for many decades. Our Select teams, which play in the North York Hockey League, do play with body checking at the Peewee level and above.

The Board of Directors of FHHA met at the Annual General Meeting and voted unanimously to oppose this ruling. The Board is not making a statement whether or not we agree that body checking should be removed from Select hockey. However, the Board feels that the process, or lack thereof, that led to this decision was flawed. Proper study and consultation with the various house leagues and, most importantly, with the parent body within the community hockey leagues has to occur before a decision to remove body checking from all age groups should be mandated.

As a result, Hersh Forman, President of the FHHA, sent the following letter to the directors at the OHF:

If you have any concerns or wish to express your views to the OHF please feel free to do so. The contact at the OHF is Phil McKee and his email is pmckee@ohf.on.ca. Concerns and suggestions are welcome and please direct them to hershforman@fhha.org or markgrammer@fhha.org.
