Forest Hill Hockey Association

IT’S 2011-2012 REGISTRATION TIME!

The Forest Hill Hockey Association is a non-profit corporation that provides an opportunity for children aged 4 to 18 to play house league and select hockey in their local community. Once again for the 2011-2012 season, we will be offering a complete hockey program every weekend from early October 2011 to the end of April 2012, excluding the December school break.

REGISTRATION

Our enrollment is strictly limited by the amount of ice time available at the Larry Grossman Forest Hill Memorial Arena. In order to avoid disappointment, please apply early!

EARLY BIRD APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 15th, 2011. (See ACCEPTANCE PRIORITIES below)

FEES: $375.00 for House League applications received on or before May 15th, 2011 and $425.00 thereafter, except the Learn to Play Program which is $400.00 with no discount.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

Registration is only available online on our website. All new players will need their Birth Registration Number located on their Birth Certificate. If you do not have a Birth Registration Number, you may use your Citizenship Number or Passport Number.

Payment of fees is processed immediately using your Visa or MasterCard. This is a fully secured service operated by Global Payments. Your credit card statement will display Forest Hill Hockey Association. We do not accept payment by any other method.

House League and Learn to Play registration is handled by the Hockey Canada Registry. You can start the process by proceeding to registration at the bottom of this page.

ACCEPTANCE: Official acceptances will be sent via e-mail to the address provided at registration. Players not accepted will be contacted by e-mail as early as possible.

ACCEPTANCE PRIORITIES:

Returning Players: Returning players (subject to prior year attendance record) will have their places protected until the May 15, 2011 application deadline. We cannot guarantee a place, even to returning players, whose applications are received after that date. It is your responsibility to get your application in on time. The Registry will provide information from last year to help make the registration process more efficient.

New Applicants: New applications received on or before the Application Deadline will be accepted based upon availability with first priority being given to the siblings of returning players. After allowing for returning players and their siblings, if there are more eligible new applicants than places, places will be allocated on the basis of a lottery conducted by the Registrar at the Association’s acceptance meeting.

Late Applications: Late applications will be accepted on a first come first serve basis until all spaces are filled. In the event of surplus applications, waiting lists are maintained for each division.

LEARN TO PLAY REGISTRATION

Our popular Learn To Play Program is not for absolute beginners who have never skated. Kids need to have been on skates and should be able to at least move around the rink a little by themselves. Enrollment is strictly limited to 40 players. In order to avoid disappointment, please apply early!

HOUSE LEAGUE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Last season close to 600 players participated in our house league. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for friendly competition, promote good sportsmanship, team play, skill development, love of hockey and of course social interaction both on the ice and in the stands. As result we have an equal ice time policy entitling all players, regardless of skill level, to equal ice time to the greatest extent possible.

Please note that all House League Divisions play non-contact hockey.

*Note: These times are tentative and may be changed to accommodate actual registration numbers in each division. All Divisions (except Midget) will additionally play some games on Sunday mornings.

SAFETY & UNIFORMS: Safety concerns are paramount in hockey. It is mandatory that protective equipment be worn at all times. No player will be allowed on the ice or on the bench without full C.S.A. approved equipment, including a BNQ neck guard and a helmet with a full facemask. All players will receive a team sweater and matching socks.

EQUALIZATION TRADES: In order to promote participation and fun we try to ensure that the house league teams are as even as possible. Accordingly we reserve the right to trade players between teams, in a manner designed to achieve a competitive balance. We try to conclude trades before the December break. We realize that most players do not wish to be traded, but please cooperate with the convenors when trades are made.

TEAM REQUESTS: We occasionally receive requests for a player to be placed on the same team as another player. Such requests often make it difficult to balance the teams initially or to make appropriate trades. Carpool considerations will apply only to registrants who must travel great distances to reach the arena.

GOALIES: Unfortunately we often have more goalies than teams, with the result that some goalies must share the workload. Prospective goalies must be prepared to share goaltending duties. If numbers permit sharing goalies may at the option of the league be permitted to play out during their “off weeks”. Note: Goalies at the Atom level and above are expected to provide their own equipment. Goalie equipment will be provided for Squirt and Novice Division goalies.

ATTENDANCE: We realize that kids sometimes miss house league games due to illness, injury or other “exceptional” circumstances. However, missing games for other reasons is against our attendance policy as stated below and is unacceptable. Everyone has a specific reason why attending the house league games are difficult, but it makes it particularly hard for the conveners to balance the teams and for the coaches to run their teams when attendance is sporadic.

Players who miss more than three games owing to conflicting commitments (e.g. other sports or activities) or without proper notice may risk suspension without refund. Such players may also be denied re-registration for the following season so that more dedicated players will get the opportunity to play.

Select players must play in House League games in order to be eligible to play in Select games. Select players who neglect their commitment to House League will not be allowed to play in Select games.

PRESEASON HOCKEY SKILLS: A skills program for Learn To Play, Squirt, Novice, and possibly Atom, subject to availability, will be offered, starting in October. An e-mail fully explaining the program and application form will be sent out by separate mailing during the summer.

PRACTICES: For players in the Squirt, Novice and Atom Divisions we offer Sunday morning skill sessions throughout the season.

SELECT HOCKEY

The purpose of our Select program is to provide an additional opportunity for our more skilled and enthusiastic players to play hockey in a more challenging and competitive setting. As with our House League, the goal of the Select program is to foster good sportsmanship, the development of positive social skills, team play and hockey skills.

TEAMS: For the 2011-2012 season, where numbers justify, we plan to enter a Select team in the North York Hockey League for every birth year from 2003 to 1994. Players born in 2004 will be eligible to try out for the 2003 birth year team. The North York Hockey League is open to house league select teams in the Greater Toronto area and operates under the umbrella of the GTHL.

TRYOUTS: Tryouts will start right after Labour Day, before the house league season begins. An email with tryout information will be sent to all players who indicated on registration that they are interested in trying out for Select hockey. Please check the FHHA website at www.fhha.org in August for more Select tryout information.

Only those players who have registered with the FHHA prior to the first tryout date, and have received official confirmation of acceptance from the Registrar will be allowed to try out for a Select team.

COMMITMENT: During the North York Hockey League season teams generally play one game and have one practice a week. In the spring however, during playoffs and tournaments, the number of games is likely to increase. It is a Forest Hill Hockey tradition that Select teams enter one out of town tournament per year. Parents are welcome and encouraged to accompany the team. In addition, Select teams may enter one or more local tournaments.

COST: There is an additional fee payable for select hockey that is paid after the team has been selected. A letter detailing the fees and the select program will be handed out at the beginning of the season.

MISCELLANEOUS

FEE ASSISTANCE: If you require financial assistance, special arrangements can be made. Please feel free to contact Neil Friedman 416-780-1994 or neilfriedman@fhha.org. All inquiries will be strictly confidential.

REFUND POLICY: Registered players who withdraw before July 1, 2011 will receive a full refund (less a $50 administration fee). Refunds will be given after July 1, 2011 (less $100 administration fee) only if a replacement player is found. No refunds will be given after September 24, 2011.

SPONSORS

Our thanks and appreciation goes out to the businesses that have generously given their support to the Association. Our sponsors are our neighbourhood businesses and the businesses of members of our community.

Please support our sponsors. A list of sponsors is available at our web site http://www.fhha.org/fhha/sponsors.aspx

Now is the time to consider your sponsorship for next season.

For the 2011-2012 season the sponsorship fee for both house league and select will be $750.00 per team. For this, your Company name and/or logo will be printed on one set of team sweaters and your company name and/or logo will be posted on our web site and at the Larry Grossman Forest Hill Memorial Arena. Each sponsor will receive a complimentary team jersey and most importantly, an appreciation that your support has benefited children’s hockey in our community.

Please indicate your interest in being a sponsor on your child’s registration and we will contact you. If you have any questions please contact Jeff Wagman at jeffwagman@fhha.org.

VOLUNTEERS

Hockey Canada has made it mandatory for all volunteers to get a Criminal Record Search done and have it submitted to the league before the season starts in October, 2011. The cost will be reimbursed by the league.
