The Forest Hill Hockey Association is pleased to offer our "Learn to Play" hockey program for 4 and 5 year-olds who have some skating ability. Recognizing the importance of skating to hockey enjoyment and success, instruction will emphasize power skating as well as hockey skills together with short scrimmages to provide a "fun" learning environment. The program will take place at 7:45am - 8:45am on Saturday mornings on the small ice pad. Instruction will be provided by certified instructors assisted by volunteer coaches.
The Learn To Play program is designed to both strengthen skating skills and teach basic hockey skills. Divided into groups based on skill level, the skaters practice drills which will improve their balance, stamina, edges, turns, quick powerful starts and stopping, and stick handling.
During part of each session skaters are divided into four (skill-balanced) teams to work on handling the puck, shooting on net and playing as part of a team. A short scrimmage game ends each session. Full hockey equipment is required.
